The history of psychology begins with the earliest religious thoughts and ideas people had about themselves, others and life. The human consciousness seem to search for context and meaning in thoughts and events. It is impossible to say exactly when these thoughts were formulated into psychological ideas about mind and behavior. However, philosophers from ancient Greece started to formulate some ambitious ideas around 800 BC.
Psychology is a relatively young science that evolved around year 1850. Before this, psychology was mainly a philosophical discipline, rationalizing about the theory of mind, ethics and other philosophical issues.
William James is known as the father of psychology.
